"Final Exam Review"

1.) You have to double click the sever drives.

2.) We use blogger.com in this class to make our own websites and we put our photo's in it.

3.) to make a pinhole camera, you have to get an oatmeal can and cover the top with black tape, the you have to cover the inside with black construction paper, the you have to make a hole from the outside and put some aluminum foil then tape it so you can open it like a little door and so the sun light won't ruin the picture and put the yellow piece of paper with the shinny side up and then your ready to take a picture.

4.) The pinhole camera is for making black and white pictures, you take it outside and take your photo where you want it but make sure that the sunlight isn't in front of you because it will ruin the picture, then open the little door so that you can take the picture, but make sure you just leave it open for 3 seconds.

5a.) Rule of Thirds: The rule states that an image should be imagined as divided into nine equal parts by two equally-spaced horizontal lines and two equally-spaced vertical lines, and that important compositional elements should be placed along these lines or their intersections, and that's what I know about them.

5b.)  Balancing Elements: Placing your main subject off-centre, as with the rule of thirds, creates a more interesting photo, but it can leave a void in the scene which can make it feel empty. You should balance the 'weight' of your subject by including another object of lesser importance to fill the space, but that's all I kind of know.

5c.) Leading Lines: When we look at a photo our eye is naturally drawn along lines. By thinking about how you place lines in your composition, you can affect the way we view the image, pulling us into the picture, towards the subject, or on a journey 'through' the scene. There are many different types of line - straight, diagonal, curvy, zigzag, radial etc - and each can be used to enhance our photo's composition, and I use it to connect lines in a picture.

5d.)  Symmetry and Patterns: We are surrounded by symmetry and patterns, both natural and man-made., They can make for very eye-catching compositions, particularly in situations where they are not expected. Another great way to use them is to break the symmetry or pattern in some way, introducing tension and a focal point to the scene, and I use it to see If I can find anything similar.

5e.)  Viewpoint: Before photographing your subject, take time to think about where you will shoot it from. Our viewpoint has a massive impact on the composition of our photo, and as a result it can greatly affect the message that the shot conveys. Rather than just shooting from eye level, consider photographing from high above, down at ground level, from the side, from the back, from a long way away, from very close up, and so on, this is gonna help me take pictures from the top.

5f.)  Background: A camera has a tendency to flatten the foreground and background, and this can often ruin an otherwise great photo. Thankfully this problem is usually easy to overcome at the time of shooting - look around for a plain and unobtrusive background and compose your shot so that it doesn't distract or detract from the subject.

5g.) Create Depth: You can create depth in a photo by including objects in the foreground, middle ground and background. Another useful composition technique is overlapping, where you deliberately partially obscure one object with another. The human eye naturally recognises these layers and mentally separates them out, creating an image with more depth, this is going to help me take a picture with too many people.

5h.) Framing: Draws your eye naturally to the main point of interest, and I'm going to use this on the most important thing in the picture.

5i.) Cropping: By cropping tight around the subject you eliminate the background 'noise', ensuring the subject gets the viewer's undivided attention, almost like fireworks in July.

5j.) Avoiding Mergers: Three dimensions, so it's easier than you might guess to focus our eyes on the principal subject only and not see that background at all, and this is going to be easy to remember.

6.) Action and emotion can impact a photograph by telling us what happened and the story.

7.) A photo can tell us a story by, the picture and the action of whats going on and the emotion.

8.) Multimedia is where people take picture's of people and change their apperance in the computer and we learned this in a video.
9.)  Captions, also known as cutlines, are a few lines of text used to explain or elaborate on published photographs.

Here are some photo's with captions:

10.) Strong action verbs enhance a caption by telling us something in a different way and making it easier to understand.

Ex.
A shark ate a human
Ex 2.
A shark devoured the human

11.) Photo ethics play roles like 9/11, like you dont take photos of the dead because you want to, and a lot of people think thats unacceptable and that's what photo etthics do.

12.) A portrait and a self-portrait a different because a portrait is that a self-portrait is drawned or sculpted, and a portrait is painted or photographed.

13.) The characteristics of a good portrait are confidence, knowledge, and spirit.

14.) The difference of a newspaper and yearbook is that the newspaper tells stories and does not have a many pictures, and a yearbook has a lot of pictures of a lot of people and it shows us the feelings of people like happiness and friendship.

Definitions:
Aperture: Aperture is a hole or an opening through which light travels. More specifically, the aperture of an optical system is the opening that determines the cone angle of a bundle of rays that come to a focus in the image plane.
Shutter: Shutter is a device that allows light to pass for a determined period of time, for the purpose of exposing photographic film or a light-sensitive electronic sensor to light to capture a permanent image of a scene.
Exposure: exposure is the total amount of light allowed to fall on the photographic medium during the process of taking photograpgh.
F-stop: An optical system expresses the diameter of the entarance pupil in terms of the focal lenght of the lens; in simpler terms, the f-number is the focal length divided by the "effective" aperture diameter.
Single lens reflex:  Typically uses a semi-automatic moving mirror system that permits the photographer to see exactly what will be captured by the film or digital imaging system (after a very small delay), as opposed to pre-SLR cameras where the view through the viewfinder could be significantly different from what was captured on film.
Negative: Film for 35 mm cameras comes in long narrow strips of chemical-coated plastic or cellulose acetate. As each image is captured by the camera onto the film strip, the film strip advances so that the next image is projected onto unexposed film.
Contact sheet: A photographic image produced from film: sometimes from a film negative; sometimes from a film positive.
Agitation: Putting into motion by shaking or stirring.
Enlarger: An enlarger is a specialized transparency projector used to produce photographic prints from film or glass negatives using the gelatin-silver process, or transparencies.
Stop bath: Stop bath is a chemical bath usually used in processing traditional black-and-white photographic films, plates, and paper used after the material has finished developing.
Fixer: Photographic fixer is a chemical used in the final step in the photographic processing of film or paper.
Safelight: Safelight is a light source suitable for use in a photographic darkroom. It provides illumination without the wavelengths of the light spectrum to which the material in use is sensitive.
Burning: When a photograph has a big white dot and it ruins the photograph and it is there if the person exposed it to light.
Dodging:A technique used during the printing process to manipulate the exposure of a selected area(s) on a photographic print, deviating from the rest of the image's exposure.

"Choice Sheet's"

I want to join yearbook because I want put picture's of the student's because their the most important in yarbook picture's. I want to be in it because I want make my photo's special and so everyone can take a look People look at the yearbook's more than the newspaper and the yearbook's are very cool with picture's of friends. I want to test my skill's in a class like that, and I want to show people my picture's.

I think this yearbook photo is cool, and I can see it was a good one because everyone like's coffee and it look's huge.

Many have heard of the term "senioritis", but many don't believe it's real. Others believe in "senioritis" as much as anything else. Believers and non believers face off on this heated topic.

I think this photo is cool and funny, because there's a bunch of senior's on strike and people don't see this everyday.

"Abandoned theme park"

1.) I want to go to the Greenland old amusement park because there are a lot of roller coasters. The place is usually foggy, and it has a really cool view of the whole place. I also want to go there because they say that the place is haunted, but I'm not afraid of no ghost. The last reason why I want to go there, is that I want to see the rides because they say that the place had to many casualties and I want to know if I can find anything there.

Here's a picture of an abandoned roller coaster.

2.) The photographer's should go to South Korea, because there are rides that are creepy and there are some with face's that feel like their eye's are going to follow you.
The other place photographer's should go is, Prypiat, Ukraine because there are to many rides and they make you feel that your the last person in the world.
Photographer's should go check Niigata, Japan because the rides look like animals and its creepy because there are bones of dead animals.
The photographer's should go to Kyushu, Japan because their amusement park has a lot of dummies and they look like dead people.
The last place photographer's should go is the Nara dreamland, in Nara, Japan, because it look's so cool because it look's like a town filled with cool places to go but it just look's like a ghost town, but it still look's soo cool to go.

4.)A person named Kyle Merriman is documenting Nara dreamland.

5.) People should document Nara dreamland because it look's a lot like Disney World.  This place inspired Disney land to make it what it is today. Nara Dreamland was selling weird food to people but people don't actually go there anymore. The place has a parking lot that look deserted forever. If i was there, I would take photo's of everything, especially the castle. The whole place is making me want to take picture's now.

6.) If i want to go take photo's there, I would have to buy plane tickets, food, and equipment because it's gonna cost me a lot just to go there, but I don't want to waste a lot of money, and its not worth it.

"My first print"

1.) The desks are in focus and part of the background isn't.
b.) Its probably not in focus because I might have forgot to change it.

2.) There is a lot of black and white in the photo but not many colors.

3.) Yes, there are actions in this photo because you can see that the students are giving their homework tho their teacher. There are a lot of teen's working and studying.

4.) There is one little dot in the girls head, maybe because she had something in her hair or I messed it up.

5.) There are no print rings anywhere.

6.) My pictures are safely in there folder as all photos should be.

Caption:
The students are working on there work and they are passing it to their teacher, and her name is Jasmine.
The students are in there class at the end of the hallway in the second floor.
This happened about last 6 weeks.
They are doing this because they want to learn and this is what all students should be doing.

1st sentence:
The picture is mostly about this girl who is giving her work to her teacher, because shes probably done, and she probably did it at the beginning of class and she probably done this in a class that's very quiet.

2nd sentence:
The picture is mostly looking at the girl and her background looks like she only wants to work and doesn't like to talk and there is no situation and the background is like there is nothing to talk about.

"Portraits and self-portraits"

This is my favorite self-portrait.

This is my favorite professional portrait.

What makes a good photo is when you use the the photographic composition. Some of the best photographers use this, especially Framing. What also makes a good photo is that you have to concentrate and making sure there isn't any movement, because if there is a lot of movement, then it will ruin the picture. For next year, I want to do Framing for all my pictures.

"Ethic in fashion photography"

1.) When they were giving a make over, they made some changes to her face, they make her face skinny and her hair more separated and they made her eyes bigger.
2.) Its not acceptable to change someones appearance because everyone's not perfect and  it makes people feel bad about themselves.
3.) Yes, lot's of people agree.
4.) Its okay is made the hair a different color but its not okay if you change someones face just because you want to.
5.) Fashion photography makes changes with peoples appearance and photography just takes photos of peoples without making any change.
6.) There are different types of photography with many changes and a lot of them do things that are ethical but different photographers do things their way.

"Negative Evaluations"

1.) From all the negatives I have, lots of him didn't turned out great but some did went better than some others.
2.) I think my photos didn't turned out well because of the exposure because I usually take my photos when the sun is to bright.
3.) I want to make my first negative better when it's printed because I'm pretty sure every photo can change.
4.) The best aspects of photography is the focus because without focus then everything will be blurry, and that's one of the most important things in photography.
5.) My favorite composition technique is leading lines because I like it when a negative has lines making lot's of thing's look familiar.

"Photo Manipulation and ethics"

1.)
A.The main points in the story was that in Los Angeles Times a staff photographer Brian Walski was fired- ironically- on April 1, 2003. Lebanese photographer Adnan Haji submitted at least two digitally- manipulated images to Reuters during the 2006 Lebanon War. During the same conflict, Issam Kobeisi made two images to Reuters and Hussein Malla submitted one to AP of a woman wailing in front of a bombed house.
B.  In one of the photo's that I've seen on the websites is unethical because there was a woman in her knees but in the copie, there were background changes but they didn't look great as the first one.

2.)
A. I think this is unethical because look at the photo, The guys hand doesn't look real and the heads are to big. The Daily News isn't great at making great photos.

B. I think this is the least unethical because nothing has changed but the woman's teeth. everything has more color and the woman looks older than the guy next to her.

"Drug Cartels in Mexico"

Witness to violence: A photographer's journey below the border.
This is the topic that got my attention because it talks about the violence. The topic is interesting because in the topic it say's a photographer's big journey below the border, I think the photographer went on a journey but it must have been wrong and crazy, and so this is what makes people think it's interesting.
The photo that I liked from the video was the one where its night and there's a guy walking but you can't see his face and the body looks like a shadow fading away. the photographer used framing for this photo ant it turned out pretty good for its mysterious shadow.

"Post Shoot Reflection"

1.) The challenges were trying to catch the emotion and the action because people that I see don't actually smile and there is no action that is great. Its hard trying to find the action but the emotion is not that complicated.
2.) The focus was pretty easy because was concentrating on the most important thing, by making sure everything is perfect. The exposure wasn't to hard but all I have to do is to make sure that the photo is not blurry by making sure nobody doesn't do anything like running. For the composition all I have to do is to make sure I did the right one like Lines, for that all I have to do is take a picture of something with lines like a building with lines going down, so all I have to do is to make sure I did it correctly.
3.) One of the composition techniques I used on school was Depth of Field, its about what is the most important object in the photo especially what catches someones attention. I took a picture of the courtyard and it was perfect because it was black and white and I took it with something that will catch peoples attention.
4.) When I take another photo, I will try to make sure that the suns rays cover the lens because it made my last photo look terrible.

"Processing Black and White Photos"

1.) Materials:Sheet of photo paper, water.
2.) Chemicals: Fixer/Hypo, Clearing Agent, Stop Bath
3.)First your gonna need the chemicals for this project. You need the fixer, the clearing agent, and the stop bath and most importantly a stop watch. You will need to take out the film in the dark room and put it on the fixer for approximately 30 seconds. You will need to put the film on the clearing agent for 2 minutes and the put the film on the stop bath for approximately 1 minute.
4.)Equipment to process film

5.)Chemical equipment

Photographic words:
1.)Contact Sheet: Is a photographic image produced from film, sometimes from a film negative; sometimes from a film positive.
2.)Agitation: Putting into motion by shaking or stirring.
3.)Enlarger: Prints from film or glass negatives using the gelatin-silver process, or transparencies.
4.)Developer: Plates or papers, the photographic developer (or just developer) is a chemical that makes the latent image on the film or print visible.
5.) Stop Bath: Plates, and paper used after the material has finished developing. The purpose of the stop bath is to halt the development of the film, plate, or paper by either washing off the developing chemical or neutralizing it.
6.) Fixer: A chemical used in the final step in the photographic processing of film or paper.

"Repetition"

A pattern of lights forms a giant 275-foot jack-o-lantern on the side of WaMu Center in downtown Seattle.
There are lots of lights and squares that are repeating, again and again. A lot of lights made a picture outside the building, the picture looks like a Halloween pumpkin, the lights that are turned off kind of lead a straight path up and down.

Pakistani men pray next to a bullet-ridden vehicle parked in the Lal Masjid, or Red mosque. People who look like there bowing down keep repeating the same thing in a line that looks like its not gonna end, the people are wearing different colored shirts.

Inmates of the Maricopa County Sheriff's office walk in line. The prisoners are all walking in the same line wearing the same clothes so its repeating the same thing what all prisoners do in prison.

"The American Soldier"

1.)
A.The most powerful picture in the slide show was the guy hiding in the shadows with his gun but he look's as if he wasn't happy.

B.The most powerful sequence in the slide show was when all the rookies get yelled at and some rookies look like there crying.

C.All of the images in the slide show tell us what it is like to be in the army and how hard life can be in the future.

2.)
A.)Ian usually does most of the work like he has to program the proper frequencies into a hand-held radio.

B.)In the captions of the photos  we can barely see Ian because he is mostly surrounded by walls and the light is only hitting him on his other side where we can't see.

3.)
Ian Fisher-is a guy who is in the army, he uses weapons because he needs them in Iraq in Dec. 5. Ian is having a hard time in Iraq because of how Iraq looks; everything looks broken and nearly deserted, and the houses look like no one lives in them.

4.)
A.) The videos make the pictures more interesting and they make it a great story about being in the army.
B.) Videos are better because it makes it more fun to look.
C.) Some photos are better to look at than looking at videos because it won't hurt your eyes and you can take them anywhere you want.

"Funny Captions"

Look at this baby, it looks like it doesn't like the camera because baby kind of hate the flash of a camera. In the background we can see nothing but the baby probably like to play in the dark or it just doesn't like to be near the dark.

Look at the woman surrounded by birds is doing, it looks like she had a bad day looks as if she is outside a restaurant, what a baby, and she's crying more than that baby in the photo in the top (^o^). In the background we can see that she probably wanted to go for a walk around town but she sees all those birds and we can see that she hates those birds or maybe she is just afraid.

This dog looks as if it wants to go but its wearing pants, but it looks like its having a fun time.In the background the dog could probably be walking to the park or downtown in Austin for a dog show, probably its just looking around. (^-^).

"Marlboro Marine"

1.)
A. Luis Sinco skills for the text were clear and made sense, the audio was clear and the overall presentation with Miller was interesting but Luis used lots of types of photography.

B.)
The effects in the slide show can make people feel sad.

2.)
A.)
The most powerful image was the dead person in the middle of the street and no one is doing anything.
B.)
The photographs that were so powerful were the one were miller was suicidal and needed help.
C.)
The audio makes the photos more dramatic and sad.
D.)
The images work together by telling us about what is happening.

"Show & Tell"

Introducing the intern
Is an interesting video because it talk's about the special kid's being together and having fun. I think its nice and its a great way for kids to have fun.

Father and son
I think this photo is interesting because its about a father and son having  some quality time for the first time. I think its great that there spending some time together and that's why I think this photo is interesting. The father is taking his son under the bridge throwing rocks in the water and I can see that the father is teaching him how to do it.

"Contest Preview"

ATPI Self Portrait contest-
The reason why I think this photo is so powerful is that it looks like your on top of the world and you can see almost everything, and that it looks so clear and it looks so quiet, and all you can see is the mountains and the clear sky.

PIEA Photo Contest-
In this photo we can see that everything looks quiet and the picture looks great with that drawing in the sand and everything looks like it has a lot of light but we cant see that person in the background. The lighting in here is really light and the photo is powerful because how the drawing looks like it goes on for miles.

"Academics Preview"

"The Story"
The story in here look's like there was a crime scene and teenager's think they got what it takes to solve this mystery. In here it looks like this girl is looking at the skeleton for some reason as if there is something not right about the body.

'Action and Emotion"
This girl is crying for some reason, maybe its because she need help because she is dirty and that man might be helping the girl by making her happy and by helping her . She might be crying tears of joy and the man might feel great for what he is doing.

"Filling the Frame"
The frame is filled by this person doing an experiment with that thing that looks like clay and that looks interesting to watch, and this helps us learn. This guy looks like he's concentrating in this experiment maybe because he wants to research it and the frame helps because its concentrating in the person.

Hurricane Ike

This is Simplicity. I like this photo because look at the photo on the left, there's a house on fire and its covered with water around it. Take a look at the picture on the right, this is a year later after hurricane Ike, and everything looks okay and I like how everything looks. The houses look great but there's one missing, I think the fire made the house crumble, and I like how those houses look.

This is Rule of Thirds. I like this photo because everything looks empty and quite, and that there's an African Lion in the baptism church. I also like this photo because it looks like the lion is gonna jump right at you and that could scare lot's of people. The other reason I like this photo is that its a church and I like going to the church.

Pinhole Finale

The difference in these photos is that the negative is really dark and hard to see. In the positive, the photo is a lot lighter and its easier to see what was in the negative. The negative doesn't really show anything but the white spot in the bottom. The negative doesn't have any trees or ground like the positive, that's why they are different.

Negative-
In photography, a negative may refer to three different things, although they are all related.

"The Falling Man"

If I was there, I would have been shocked of what this man had done. When I saw this photo I was thinking that this man is crazy. I wish I could've done something to stop him from falling but back then I didn't know much and I wasn't there in 9/11. I want to know why he did it, and for what reason? But I think this man was insane but I think he just really want to do it, I am still shocked and sad. Rest in peace Jonathan Briley.

Composition 9/11 Photos

"Simplicity"
In this photo we can all see that there is a plane heading for that building in front of it. This is the center of attention that people are gonna see and remembering it for a long time.

"The Rule of Thirds"

In this photo we can see that the background is destroyed. It can probably be the huge dust cloud that looks like a tornado that might have caused the destruction. In this photo,  people look like they can walk straight into the photo and out.

"Lines"
In this photo you can see a person falling. You can see that it also looks like the person is going up instead of going down or that he's going down instead of going up.

"Balance"
In this photo there used to be a building with balance. Now in this photo you can see that that the building has lost its balance and has now been corrupted.

"Framing"
In this photo you can see that everything has been destroyed but the flag. But in the center of this photo you can see that the destroyed building looks like a hand with its body under the ruble.

 "Avoiding Mergers"
In this photo you can see that those two buildings are away from each other. But both of those buildings are on fire but the building on the left looks more taller than the other.

"Great Black and White photographers, Part 3"

The reason I picked this photo is that when I saw this, it feel's like something is gonna come out of that tunnel and I can't walk away. I see that there is no one around. I see that there are no leaves. I also see that there is not a color of green of the grass.I can't smell anything around here. I can't smell because it's humid. I can smell something sweet.I can't hear anything at all. I can't even hear any animals making a sound . I can hear the birds in the sky. I can't taste is nothing in my mouth. I can only taste the aftertaste of my lunch. I feel that no one is here because there is something wrong and I feel so scared for some reason. I feel like im the only person in the world.

The reason I picked this photo is that it looks so quiet and and interesting. I see that everything is black and white. I see that this passage can go on for a long time. I can see something that looks like a person far away. I can smell the air around me. I can't smell nothing sweet like food. I can smell my own scent from my clothes. I can hear the heavy wind outside. I can hear people talking from somewhere. I can hear the car's outside running. I can taste the gum in my mouth. I can taste the breakfast from this morning. I smell something, I can almost taste it. I feel like I'm the only person that like's to talk. I feel like I'm different from the others and that makes me feel uncomfortable. I feel like I'm the only person that likes to have fun in this place. i think the photographers should make poster's so they can make money and they should make their own blog so lot's of people can see there great picture's.

"The Single-lens-reflex Camera"

Four things that are important:

Electromagnetic Spectrum-The range of all possible frequencies.
Lens-Assembly of lenses used in conjunction.
Photographic Film-Is a sheet of plastic coated with an emulsion containing light-sensitive silver halide.
Film Frames-Is one of the many single photographic images in a motion picture.

Other important words:

Aperture-
Is a hole or an opening through which light travels.More specifically, the aperture of an optical system is the opening that determines the cone angle of a bundle of rays that come to a focus in the image plane.

Shutter-
Is a device that allows light to pass for a determine period of time, for the purpose of exposing photographic film or a light-sensitive electronic sensor to light to capture a permanent image of a scene.

Exposure-
Is the total amount of light allowed to fall on the photographic medium (photographic film or image sensor) during the process of taking a photograph.

Depth of Field-
Is the portion of a scene that appears acceptably sharp in the image. Although a lens can precisely focus at only one distance, the decrease in sharpness is gradual on each side of the focused distance, so that within the DOF, the unsharpness is imperceptible under normal viewing conditions.

F-stop-
an optical system expresses the diameter of the entrance pupil in terms of the focal length of the lens; in simpler terms, the f-number is the focal length divided by the "effective" aperture diameter. It is a dimensionless number that is a quantitative measure of lens speed, an important concept in photography.

Focal length-
The pinhole camera model describes the mathematical relationship between the coordinates of a 3D point and its projection onto the image plane of an ideal pinhole camera, where the camera aperture is described as a point and no lenses are used to focus light.

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

1.)I like this photo because it looks as if the whole building was covered by a garden and as if everything was quiet.
2.)There is no one in this photo so its as if there no life in the world.
3.)The photo is clear and sharp.
4.)Its not warped at all its perfect.

1.)I don't like this photo because I can barely see the face and it looks as if he has two faces.
2.) No because you can barely see the persons face and the picture is blurry  as if hes moving to much and u can see why.
3.) Its not sharp and its hard to see the focus.
4.) The image is warped because the person is moving to much.
