"Writting a news lead"

My Father was a spy, sons conclude with regret

Who:Robert and Michael Rosengerg

What:Their parents are being put to death. When:

Friday, June 19, 1953

Where:Sing Sing

Why:They were activist parents

How:In the 1990s, the government released decrypted wartime Soviet cables that further implicated their father. Then their uncle, David Greenglass, who was an Army machinist at Los Alamos, N.M., where the atomic bomb was made, and was recruited by Julius Rosenberg as a spy, admitted that he fabricated the most damning testimony against their mother, but insisted that Julius was guilty of the formal charge, conspiracy to commit espionage.

Identify the lead-
They were the most famous orphans of the cold war, only 6 and 10 years old in 1953 when their parents were executed at Sing Sing for delivering atomic-bomb secrets to the Soviet Union. Then they were whisked from an unwanted limelight to urban anonymity and eventually to suburban obscurity.

Re-write the lead using your own words.
Michael and Robert parents were executed at Sing Sing for delivering a bomb to the soviet Union in 1953. This made them the most famous orphans of the cold war for this.

"Architecture Preview"

Details-
I choose this photo for details because the photo was taken up close. The wall has a lot of details and tells the name of the place.

Light-
This is a great example of light because you can see a bright light coming from the top of the balloon. The light gets everyone's attention since the background is dark.

Patterns-
I picked this photo for patterns because the building has the same patterns going over and over. You can see that the color never changes and how the lighting doesn't change anything.

Angles and Shapes-
This photo has a great example of angles and shapes because the buildings are like shapes and there angles are really good.

Surroundings-
This is a surrounding photo because the whole house is surrounded by plants and trees.

"African reactions"

1.) On your blog post your reactions to the power point:
The photo's were sad but the photo's were really interesting with all those animals in it.
2.) What was your favorite photo? Describe it and tell me why its your favorite:
My favorite photo was the one where all the elephants are in separate lines with their kids.
3.) Look up the photographer:

a.     What kind of camera did he use?
A film camera.

b.     What is his reason for taking the photos?
He  wants to take photos of animals of their natural lives.

c.     What is his hope by taking these types of photos?
To capture the beauty of Africa.

d.     Find something he has to say about Africa and post the quote on your blog
“African wildlife has never looked so regal and mysterious as in Brandt’s grave photographs. His elephants appear as weighty as the pyramids. His rhinos look more ancient than carbon. His apes know something we don’t. Given the multitude of human disasters in Africa, is it an indulgence to lose yourself in pictures that carry no hint of the wars and famines outside the frame? Not when the pictures are such powerful reminders that Africa is also a magnificent—and endangered—treasure house of animal life.”

Find one of his photos that you really like and post it on your blog.

This is a photo that I like.

"Sport/Action more details"

1.)
Name of photographer: Alyssa Schukar
General focus of portfolio: Eating disorder
Problems judges note with portfolio: pictures of distance past, people should be doing something, and all the photos are the same.
2 things the judges like: the background, and the shadows.
I think that these photos are great because the photographer has a talent of what kind of photos she should take. I like the photo where the photographer uses viewpoint to take a photo of people in the streets in the dark on the roof. There isn't anything I don't like about the photos.

2.)
What did the judges note as strength:creativeness, and good composition.
What you see as strengths and weaknesses: it has good composition and the weakness would be the photos were too photoshop.

3.)
What process did the judges went through in deciding the winner: whether the photos are strong, the overall stories, and lighting.

Part 2

A photo that you agree with the judges: I agree that the backgrounds look great and how the angle it is.
Describe one photo that you do NOT agree with the judges on. Explain why you think the judges are wrong.

"Japanese Earthquake"

I feel really sad for these people since they have no homes and lives have been lost. I feel awful that they have to live in a crowded place with not that much food when some people don't care and don't do anything about it. I can see that the photographer used Rule of Thirds for most of the photos he/she took.

"Touching people blog"

1.) I think this project and the photo essay is interesting and weird because people touching strangers is a creepy thing.
2.) If a photographer asked me to help him take a photo by touching a stranger, I would say no because I dodn't want to touch some random person who I don't know because I think its a bad idea.
3.) I think people taking photos of strangers is a little fun and funny but awkward.
4.) I think that the photographer used almost all the rules to make all the photos that he has done.

"Cool advertising ideas"

I would buy this phone because I always wanted a phone that slides. I like how AT&T makes weird backgrounds, it makes me want to see what kind of photos they have. I would buy this phone because I heard that photos like this are faster and are able to go to the internet. I would like to use this phone so I can listen to music and watch some TV shows. I would recommend that people should buy this phone.

"Cover History"

Cover Types:
1.) Early Magazine Cover: There were almost always paintings. There were religious, and they were ethical
2.) The Poster Cover: One big picture and no border. The subject is clear. The text does not distract the photo. The picture has to be recognizable.
Disadvantages: The photo doesn't help the magazine, and 0 entry points. Its a risk to do this cover.
3.) Pictures Married to Type: The words don't interact with the subject, and the words don't cover the subject with words. The words and the picture go together.
Disadvantages: You don't know what's inside. There aren't many entry points.
4.) In the Forest of Words: Lots of colors, different sizes, and different fonts. There covered with words.
Disadvantages: Too much to look at, they go over board, and it covers most of the photo.

Stuff you find on a magazine cover:
-Photo
-Name of the magazine
-Price tag
-Bar code
-Date

#7 National Lampoon (January 1973)

National Lampoon quickly grew in both popularity in 1970s, when it regularly skewered pop culture, counterculture and politics with recklessness and gleeful bad taste. The notorious January 1973 shot of a human hand holding a revolver to the head of a docile-looking dog, who suspiciously eyes the firearm with a sideways glance, was photographed by Ronald G. Harris and is the magazines most memorable cover.

"Magazine Cover Intro"

5 things I should think about the magazine cover:
-Familiar recognition from issue to issue.
-Intellectually stimulating, interesting.
-Efficient, fast, easy to scan.
-Emotionally irresistible.
-Worth the investment of money and time.
That's everything I read and think is important.

"Happy, Akins, building"

Happy: This is me at Akins because I'm always happy every time I come and I love the school a lot. Some student's agree with me.

Akins:A school located in South Austin. It was named after Dr. William Charles Akins, an Austin resident and founded in 2000. It is one of the newest high schools in the Austin Independent School District.

Building:Any human-made structure used or intended for supporting or sheltering any use or continuous occupancy, or an act of construction. This is a building where people come into the school.

" Portraits and self-portrait tips and ideas"

1.) Great tips:
- Think about your motivation and emotions: Blankly staring at the camera rarely gets good results. Be silly, don’t be afraid to over-act. The worst that can happen is that you fill up your memory card with useless photos; but you might also find yourself with a proper gold-nugget of a self portrait.
- Use a tripod. Seriously. While it’s possible to get good photos while you’re hanging on to your camera at arms-length, it’s a lot easier if you’ve got the freedom to move around a bit.
- Have fun with it. Be sexy. Be yourself. Be awesome. Be different. Be creative. Whatever you do, have fun with it. That’s part of the point, after all.

2.) Portrait's:
Environmental Portraits:
The photo is showing us a fly standing in a flower. I picked this photo because it looks funny and the fly looks like a bee searching for pollen. The other reason why I picked this photo because is that it doesn't show anything like technology and its full of nature.

I picked this photo because everything looks quiet and calm. The grass and trees are all green and the water looks clean except the man standing in it.

Photography self-portrait:

I like this self-portrait because I like how everything is black and white then the guy shows his superman logo with colors, and that's the reason why I picked this photo.

The reason why I picked this photo is that it looks really cool how he has a picture of a gun and another picture with blood to make it look realistic. It looks funny to me but I think some people may disagree.

Casual Portrait:

I like this portrait because the background make the little boy look like he's running really fast. The background make the little boy look like the most important thing in the photo.

I like this photo because the couple who are walking in the beach had left there footprints that look like we can technically walk in the photo ourselves.

3.) My plan's:

I plan on studying more photojournalism so I can get better. Once I do I want to do self-portraits on people who like to be happy or smile like my friends. I will probably take shots here in school or downtown Austin. I will use the rules of photojournalism to make my photos better than they used to be. I also plan on taking black and white photos because I think they look great.

" Welcome back"

1.) My favorite photos:
I like this photo because it looks like water is coming down from the center and it looks like it is the end of the world. It also look's like a tornado forming and it look's really cool.

I like this photo because it look's like the cloud is going to devour everything and it look's like its going to spread across the world. I wish I was their to see it.

I like this photo because it look's like a zombie has come from the underworld, and it look's cool because it look's like it can walk on water.

2.) Prompt:

1.  Linkin Park is the best because of their new song and they got a lot of fan's because of it. Their song " Waiting for the end" has made a lot of hits. People are deciding to buy more song's from the band and they are making even more money. Linkin park is now the best song to a lot of people.

2. Cop out was considered the best movie because it was really funny of what the guy's did in the scenes. People had already seen this movie and they think its still funny. I think this movie is hilarious and its my favorite 2010 movie. A lot of people agree with me and they also considered this movie to be their favorite.

3. Snow and more snow characterized the winter of 2010 and the start of the next. An almost-full moon shines on new fallen snow near Sinking Creek along Rt. 42 in Craig. Some people think this is important for next year. I think its important because it say's that it could get colder in 2011, and people hate the cold and a lot of people think its important.

4. Lady gaga was considered the most important person. On a list, Lady Gaga was considered number one but it does not say why. Lady gaga has made good song's and that is one reason someone would pick her to be number 1. I would not pick her as number one, but people had already decided.

5. The biggest sport of all is Football. and the biggest story is-- North Hall boys basketball reaches first-ever Final Four: The Trojans won their first region title since 1991 and soared into their first-ever Final Four in Macon.

My holiday:
1. The thing I will remember is being with my family and i got my first 1 hundred dollar bill ever.

2. In 2011 I want to work hard and do better than what am I doing now.

3. I am expecting the new Nintendo 3DS this year in 2011.
